How to Make a Green Tea Shot (aka Jameson Green Tea)

Green Tea Shots

Green tea shots are a refreshing addition to any cocktail party.

Ironically, this drink doesn’t have any green tea in it… which begs the question, what is a green tea shot?

A green tea shot is a cocktail made with Irish whiskey, peach schnapps, sour mix, and Sprite. The shot’s name comes from its greenish color which is reminiscent of green tea.

The combination of sweet flavors from the Peach schnapps and Sprite, combined with the kick provided by the Irish whiskey make this a thoroughly enjoyable cocktail but be warned… you’ll want to pace yourself due to this drink’s high concentration of alcohol.

Are Green Tea Shots Good for You?

Green tea is said to be one of the healthiest beverages on the planet and is commonly associated with a number of health benefits.

Proponents of green tea claim that it can aid in fat burning and weight loss. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants which helps reduce the risk associated with certain types of cancer – all while improving various aspects of brain function.

All of this sounds pretty cool right? Except green tea shots are completely devoid of green tea!

Other than lifting your spirits and putting a smile on your face, there are no health benefits associated with drinking a green tea shot.

Green and Healthy

Do I Need Green Tea to Make This Drink?

Despite its name, a green tea shot doesn’t contain any green tea. Not an ounce. You don’t need green tea to make this drink.

If your friends ask what you’re drinking, they might mistakenly assume that you’re very health conscious when you tell them it’s a green tea shot. Maybe they’ll think it’s like a shot of wheatgrass… but to be clear, there is no tea of any kind in this cocktail. Green or otherwise.

What’s in a Green Tea Shot?

A green tea shot is made of four simple ingredients: Irish whiskey, peach schnapps, sour mix, and Sprite (or lemonade). The drink is sometimes called a Jameson green tea as a nod to the original recipe which featured Jameson Irish whiskey.

A green tea shot, though tiny, is pretty concentrated and contains a full ounce of alcohol – keep this in mind, if you decide to have more than one!
